Public Hearing about the 2016 Stormwater Code Update

City Council has scheduled a public hearing on the 2016 Stormwater Code Update for August 11, 2015. The meeting is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. in Seattle City Hall Council Chambers. The draft documents of the 2016 Stormwater Code and other project applicability code changes are available for your review on our website.

You can provide comments by attending the public hearing on August 11, 2015.  You can also provide written comments on the draft 2016 Stormwater Code update by sending them to or by mailing to the address below:

Our official public comment period for written comments on the draft 2016 Stormwater Code ended on June 30, 2015. We will continue to take written comments until we send final recommendations to the Mayor for transmittal to the City Council. Email correspondence is preferred.

If you’re suggesting a code change, include as much of the following information as you can:

  • Number and title of the code section (for example:  22.805.070.D.a)
  • Specific code language you’re suggesting
  • Explanation of why the code should be changed


We may not be able to respond to individual comments, but we will take all comments into consideration.

There will also be opportunities this summer to provide public comment on the draft 2016 Stormwater Manual.  A public meeting related to the 2016 Stormwater Manual will be held in late summer or early fall of 2015.

Three Stormwater Code and Manual Update Meetings this Month

We invite you to attend the special Stormwater Code informational meeting for the Seattle Public Utilities and Neighborhoods (SPUN) Committee. It is on Friday, April 3, at 9:30 a.m. in the City Hall’s Council Chambers, 600 4th Avenue. Essentially we are presenting “Stormwater Code 101” to the SPUN Committee.

You are also invited to the SPUN Committee meeting on Tuesday, April 14, at 2:00 p.m. in City Hall’s Council Chambers. At this meeting, we will present our proposed legislation about the 2015 Stormwater Code Revision. The SPUN Committee will then vote on whether or not to send it to the full council meeting. You will have an opportunity to provide public comments at this meeting.

We will then present the 2015 Stormwater Code Revision information to the Full City Council on Monday, April 20, at 2:00 p.m. in City Hall’s Council Chambers. After listening to our presentation, and to your comments, the City Council will vote on the proposed legislation.

If the Council approves the 2015 Stormwater Code Revisions, the revisions should be effective by May 25, 2015. For more information about the 2015 Stormwater Code and Stormwater in general, please visit our Stormwater Code & Rules Update website.
