Southbound SR 99 Overhead Sign Installation on Saturday, February 10 and Sunday, February 11

SDOT is advising travelers that SDOT crews will reduce the number of southbound SR 99 travel lanes on Saturday February 10, and Sunday, February 11 to replace overhead signs directing travelers on southbound SR 99 to West Seattle and Harbor Island.

This work will reduce the number of southbound travel lanes to create work zones for crews just north of the West Seattle and Harbor Island exits starting Saturday morning and continuing through Sunday afternoon. Please use extra caution during this time as lane closures will alternate depending on the location of signs being replaced. SDOT would like to thank the public for its patience while this work is being completed. Please map below for locations:

Flowers, Swan Lake and the Year of the Dog

The Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) advises travelers of the following events and construction projects that may affect getting around the City this week.

Events

February 7 – 11 The Northwest Flower and Garden Show is at the Washington State Convention Center, Wednesday through Sunday. Hours are 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday, and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday. About 25,000 people are expected to attend each day.

February 8 – 11 The Seattle RV Show is at CenturyLink Field Event Center Thursday through Sunday. Show hours are 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday and Friday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.  Sunday. About 4,000 are expected to attend each day.

February 8 – 11 Pacific Northwest Ballet presents Swan Lake at McCaw Hall. Performances are at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday and Friday, and 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. About 3,000 people are expected at each performance.

February 11 Celebrate the Lunar New Year and the Year of the Dog in Seattle’s Chinatown-International District from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Featuring a traditional lion dance, martial arts demonstrations, and cultural dances. S King St will be closed between 6th and 7th Ave S, and Maynard Ave S will be closed between S Weller and S Jackson St from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday. About 5,000 people are expected.

Construction

February 6 – 8 Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) crews will reduce southbound I-5 to one lane between Boylston Ave E and Mercer St from 9 p.m. to 4:30 a.m. nightly. The southbound I-5 off-ramp to Mercer St will be closed from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly.

February 6 – 11 Seattle City Light crews working on the Denny Substation Project will close the right lane of eastbound Denny Way between Fairview Ave and Minor Ave weekdays from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.

February 9 through May: Lane closures on 1st Ave S south of Railroad Way S. Seattle City Light crews will install a new electrical duct bank along 1st Avenue S between S Royal Brougham Way and Railroad Way S. One lane in each direction will be maintained during work hours, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on weekdays and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekends.

February 9 – February 11 Stewart St will be down to one lane at 7th Ave from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. for work on the 7th Ave Mobility Improvements Project.

February 10 Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) crews will close the Mercer St on-ramp to southbound I-5 from 11:59 p.m. to 7 a.m. for installation of ramp metering equipment.

Overnight Closure of E Marginal Way/Alaskan Way S December 16 – 17

SDOT advises travelers that E Marginal Way/ Alaskan Way S will be closed to traffic between S Spokane St and S Atlantic St on Saturday night overnight December 16 until Sunday morning December 17, as part of the Waterfront Seattle Program.

From 9 p.m. on Saturday, December 16 until 1 a.m. on Sunday, December 17, travelers can expect the following:

  • E Marginal Way/Alaskan Way S will be closed to traffic between S Spokane St and S Atlantic St
  • A police officer will assist with traffic control at these intersections:
    • E Marginal Way and S Hinds St
    • Alaskan Way S and S Atlantic St
  • Street signal lights will be removed at the intersection of E Marginal Way and S Hanford St between approximately 9 p.m. and 11 p.m.

During this time, the restored Washington Street Boat Landing Pergola will be transferred to its original location on the south end of the waterfront. The Pergola is part of the Waterfront Seattle Program.

Seahawks vs. Atlanta for Monday Night Football at CenturyLink Field Tonight, November 20

SDOT advises travelers that the Seattle Seahawks will play the Atlanta Falcons tonight, November 20, at 5:30 p.m. for Monday Night Football at CenturyLink Field.

The game is expected to have significant traffic impacts for the PM rush hour commute. Travelers are advised to plan ahead and to expect delays if traveling in and around the city late Monday afternoon and evening. About 72,000 people are expected to attend the game at CenturyLink Field.

Sound Transit Link Light Rail: Ride from your nearest light rail station to Stadium Station.

Sounder Train Service: Sounder trains travel between Lakewood and Seattle (with stops in Tacoma, Puyallup, Sumner, Auburn, Kent and Tukwila) and between Everett and Seattle (with stops in Mukilteo and Edmonds).

West Seattle Bridge Closure November 10 – 11

SDOT advises travelers that crews will close a portion of the West Seattle Bridge (Fauntleroy Expressway) in both directions to replace jersey barriers on Friday night, November 10 through Saturday morning, November 11.

From 11:59 p.m. on Friday, November 10, through 7 a.m. on Saturday, November 11, travelers can expect:

  • Both directions of the West Seattle Bridge (Fauntleroy Expressway) will be closed between 35th Ave SW and SW Admiral Way
  • Signed detours will be posted:
    • Eastbound traffic will be detoured via SW Avalon Way to SW Spokane St to the West Seattle Bridge
    • Westbound traffic will be detoured via Harbor Ave SW to SW Avalon Way
  • The West Seattle Bridge is scheduled to reopen by 7 a.m. on Saturday
