Design Commission Seeking New Member

The Seattle Design Commission is seeking a new Get Engaged member. The Get Engaged program places young adults ages 18-29 on the City of Seattleā€™s public boards and commissions. Get Engaged commissioners serve a one-year term starting September each year. Acting in an advisory capacity to the Mayor and City Council, commissioners help shape policy decisions, make recommendations, and provide citizen participation in city government. Started in 2001, Get Engaged is dedicated to cultivating the next generation of leaders and advocating for the influence of young voices in city affairs.

Established in 1968, the Seattle Design Commission advises city officials on the design and environmental effects of capital improvement projects. Members also help select consultants for City projects. The commission meets during the day on the first and third Thursdays of each month. In addition, members serve on project subcommittees and represent the commission on other advisory boards. Members work an average of 20-25 hours a month. Members cannot contract with the city on any capital improvement project reviewed by the commission. Applicants must reside in the City of Seattle. Commission members receive an hourly rate as compensation for their service.
