Real estate agency Redfin recently named Seattle one of the 10 best cities for boaters, and we’re not surprised. Seattle Parks and Recreation operates seven motorized boat launches in addition to 27 hand carry boat launches across the city.
In fact, it’s estimated that Seattle has more pleasure boats per capita than any other city in the United States.
“In addition to the Puget Sound, there are a ton of lakes and waterways where you can canoe, kayak, sail, crew, jet ski, paddleboard, kiteboard, you name it,” Redfin agent Allie Howard said. “For events like Seafair and the Fourth of July, everyone makes a point to go out on the water and celebrate together. If you’re a boating fan, Seattle is a great place to live.”
Seattle Parks has motorized boat launches on Puget Sound and Lake Washington and two on the ship canal where launching is FREE.

Not ready to wear a captain’s hat just yet? No problem. Visit Seattle Parks’ Green Lake Small Craft Center or Mount Baker Rowing and Sailing Center. Both facilities offer various programs and classes that teach participants to row, sail, kayak, canoe and more!
