A 29-year-old man is in custody following a drive-by shooting earlier today in South Seattle. There were no reported injuries. Gang Unit detectives are conducting the follow up investigation.
Today at about 12:40 pm, officers responded to a report of shots fired in the area of Rainier Avenue South and South Kenyon Street. According to witnesses, someone inside a white car was shooting at a silver car as the two cars drove down Rainier. A short time after the call was broadcast, Gang Unit detectives spotted the suspect car near 55th Avenue South and South Beacon Street. The suspect vehicle sped away and detectives attempted to follow it. The gang detectives relocated the suspect vehicle when it crashed near S. 120th and Beacon Avenue South. The two occupants of the car fled on foot. With the assistance of a K-9 team and King County Sheriff’s Office Guardian One helicopter, one suspect was located hiding in the backyard of a nearby house. He was arrested without incident.
Gang detectives interviewed the suspect. He was later booked into King County Jail for several outstanding warrants and the drive-by shooting. The driver of the silver vehicle was located and interviewed. He stated that although he heard the shots, he was unaware he was being shot at. There was damage to his car, but no injuries. Officers recovered shell casings at the scene.
Detectives will continue to investigate.
