Mayor Murray seeks new member for Landmarks Preservation Board

Mayor Edward Murray is seeking a new member to serve on the Landmarks Preservation Board in the Architect position. The 12-member Landmarks Preservation Board makes recommendations to the Seattle City Council for landmark designation and reviews all proposed physical alterations to designated features of landmark properties.

The Board is composed of two architects, two historians, one structural engineer, one representative each from the fields of real estate and finance, one member from the City Planning Commission, a Get Engaged member (a position for adults ages 18-29), and three members at-large. All appointments are made by the Mayor, subject to City Council confirmation.

Board meetings are held on the first and third Wednesdays of each month at 3:30 p.m. The Architect and Historian board members also serve on the Board’s Architectural Review Committee (ARC). In general, Board members must commit approximately 10 hours per month to Landmark Board business.

Applicants must be Seattle residents, and Board members serve without compensation.

Landmarks Preservation Board to consider nomination of 100 Denny Way Building in Uptown neighborhood

The Landmarks Preservation Board will consider nomination of 100 Denny Way Building (104 Denny Way) on Wednesday, May 20 at 3:30 p.m. in the Seattle Municipal Tower, 700 5th Avenue, 40th Floor, Room 4060.

The public is invited to attend the meeting and make comments. Written comments should be received by the Landmarks Preservation Board at the following mailing address by May 19 at 3:00 p.m.:

Mayor Murray seeks candidate for Ballard Avenue Landmark District Board

Mayor Murray is inviting applicants for an opening on the Ballard Avenue Landmark District Board. The opening is for either a Ballard historian or a person having a demonstrated interest in the Ballard community.

The seven-member Ballard Avenue Landmark District Board protects the historical and architectural values and significance of the Ballard Avenue Landmark District by regulating all proposed changes to the external appearance of buildings, structures, and public rights-of-way located within the district boundaries

The Board includes two district property owners, two district property owners/business persons, one district tenant/resident, one architect and one Ballard historian or person with a demonstrated interest in the Ballard community. Five board members are elected for a two-year term at annual elections in the District, and two are appointed by the Mayor and approved by Seattle City Council.

Board meetings are held on the first Thursday of each month at 9 a.m. Board members generally must commit two to four hours a month to Board business. Members serve without compensation and must be Seattle residents.

Interested applicants should send a resume and letter of interest by Tuesday, May 19. Electronic submissions are preferred, if possible.
