Nighttime First Ave NE Closures for Utility Relocation Work

As early as July 27, Sound Transit’s contractor will begin installing a waterline between NE 95th and NE 100th streets. This work requires crews to close the road from 7:30 p.m. – 5 a.m. This work is expected to take approximately two to three weeks to complete. No high impact noise activities (such as jackhammering or saw-cutting) are scheduled to take place after 10 p.m. Access to homes and businesses will be maintained.

Vehicle traffic:

First Ave NE between NE 100th and NE 92nd streets will be closed to through traffic during this work.

Northbound traffic: Turn east on either NE 92nd or NE 95th streets to Fifth Avenue NE. Turn north on Fifth Avenue NE to NE 100th Street. Turn west on NE 100th Street to First Avenue NE.

Southbound Traffic: Turn east on NE 100th Street. Turn south on Fifth Avenue NE. Turn west on either NE 95th or NE 92nd streets to First Avenue NE

Ship Canal Bridge inspection to delay opening of I-5 express lanes this weekend

Drivers who use the Interstate 5 express lanes will need to use the mainline to travel southbound for most of the morning on both Saturday, July 25, and Sunday, July 26.

The opening of the I-5 express lanes in the southbound direction will be delayed until 11:30 a.m. on both days so Washington State Department of Transportation maintenance crews can inspect the Ship Canal Bridge. The lanes will switch northbound on the normal weekend schedule by 1:45 p.m. and close at 11 p.m.

Fire suppression system testing to close lanes and ramps on I-5 in Seattle

Drivers should prepare for a few nights of multi-lane and ramp closures on Interstate 5 in downtown Seattle beginning this Thursday night, July 16. Flammable cargo will be prohibited during the closures.

Washington State Department of Transportation maintenance crews will be conducting routine maintenance and testing of the fire suppression system under the Washington State Convention Center.

Lane closures:

  • Thursday, July 16, to the morning of Friday, July 17 – Two left lanes of northbound I-5 under the convention center will be closed from 11:59 p.m. to 3 a.m.
  • Saturday, July 18 – Three right lanes of northbound I-5 through the convention center will be closed from 12:30 to 3:30 a.m.
  • Friday, July 24, to the morning of Saturday, July 25 – All lanes of southbound I-5 will be closed at the Stewart Street/Denny Way off-ramp from 11:59 p.m. to 5 a.m. The I-5 express lanes will be open southbound from 11:30 p.m. to 5 a.m. Oversized loads more than 14 feet 7 inches should use Interstate 405.

Ramp closures:

  • Thursday, July 16, to the morning of Friday, July 17 – The University Street on-ramp to northbound I-5 will be closed from 11:59 p.m. to 3 a.m.
  • Saturday, July 18 – The Cherry Street on-ramp to northbound I-5 will be closed from 12:30 to 3:30 a.m.
  • Friday, July 24, to the morning of Saturday, July 25 – The Mercer Street and Yale Avenue on-ramps to southbound I-5 will be closed from 11:59 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Northbound I-5 lane and ramp closures this week between North Seattle and Shoreline

Drivers heading north out of downtown Seattle on Interstate 5 should prepare for possible overnight delays this week.

Washington State Department of Transportation maintenance crews will close several lanes and ramps on northbound I-5 between Northgate Way in North Seattle and State Route 104 in Shoreline for pavement grinding work.

Closure details

  • Monday, July 13, to the morning of Tuesday, July 14 – The northbound I-5 off-ramp to Northgate Way/1st Avenue Northeast will be closed from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
  • Tuesday, July 14, to the morning of Wednesday, July 15 – The SR 523/Northeast 145th Street on-ramp to northbound I-5 will be closed from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
  • Wednesday, July 15, to the morning of Thursday, July 16 – Up to three right lanes of northbound I-5 at SR 104/Northeast 205th Street will be closed from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. for grinding work. The HOV lane will be open to all vehicles. The northbound I-5 off-ramp to SR 104/Northeast 205th Street will also be closed from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
  • Thursday, July 16, to the morning of Friday, July 17 – The northbound I-5 on-ramp to Northeast 130th Street will be closed from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Restoration of 10th Avenue E. and E. John Street continues

Crews will continue demolishing the red wall along the perimeter of the work area. Beginning Friday, July 10, temporary fencing will be installed along the west side of 10th Ave. E. as crews work north from E. Denny Way toward E. John St. to demolish the red wall. This work will last approximately two weeks. Work hours are weekdays from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Several trailers on-site must be removed to make room for the demolition. The City of Seattle has approved temporary noise variances for their removal on Saturday July 11 and Saturday July 18 from 6 a.m. to 6 pm.

What to expect:

  • On-street parking will be restricted on 10th Ave. E. between E. Denny Way and E. John St. during this work.
  • Sidewalk closures on the west side of 10th Ave. E and the south side of E. John St.
  • Intermittent daytime noise as crews demolish the plywood wall and excavate the concrete footing.
  • Access to homes and driveways will be maintained.
