What’s new since What’s Moving Seattle This Week? Some fuel-spill vacuuming; an early bridge opening; and the kick-off of a signal safety project. So let’s get on with the deets!
More clean-up at tanker spill site.
Tanker spill clean-up continues this weekend, starting tomorrow morning. With another specialized truck crews will continue removing fuel from the storm drain system. The work isn’t expected to significantly impact travel, but there will be periodic closures of:
- WB right lane of E Marginal Way SW, at SW Chelan
- Right turn lane from SW Spokane to E Marginal Way SW
Admiral passes its tests!
Admiral Way Bridge testing finished early–thanks to the hardworking group. That means no closures tomorrow, as originally planned, or Monday! Admiral Way is actually 2 parallel bridges, tested to be sure they can safely carry heavy trucks recently introduced by the trucking industry.
Signaling Olson Pl SW & 1st Ave S.
This is the first weekend crews will work 12+ hours/days to improve safety at the busy 1st Ave S and Olson Place SW intersection. Excavation starts at 7:30 AM Saturday, to trench and then lay conduit across all lanes of 1st Ave S, for new traffic signaling. Over approximately 70′ of trench, crews will place steel plates — drivers, especially motorcyclists, use extreme caution!
Work continues 8:30 AM – 9 PM Sunday, then picks up again next weekend. Expect lane closures and be patient, as crews work hard to complete the project in 4 consecutive weekends.
Construction of the Alaska Way Traffic Switch (AWTS) begins Monday, August 6. Work starts in the former ferry queuing lanes and moves north into current waterfront parking. The project will construct new traffic signals in preparation for traffic on Alaskan Way to be moved out from underneath the viaduct.
Office of the Waterfront will be installing a vault on Madison St between Western Ave and Alaskan Way beginning August 6. There will be a full street closure August 10 – 13. Work is expected to be complete August 17.
Construction continues on the Amazon HQ – Blanchard St will be closed between 7th and 8th avenues beginning August 9. The closure will continue through 9/14, so 4 projects can work concurrently in the street, limiting long-term impacts. The N sidewalk will remain open.
Information subject to change. Additional construction or events may be planned in the Seattle area.
