Major Crimes Task Force (MCTF) detectives are investigating a prolific car thief after South Precinct bicycle officers tracked spotted him driving a stolen car and later found him hiding in a closet in his mother’s South Seattle home.
Shortly after 5:00 pm on Tuesday, February 27th, South Precinct bike officers stopped a stolen 2003 Honda Accord near Martin Luther King Jr. Way South and Renton Avenue South. The officers had detained the passenger when the driver sped away, driving over sidewalks as he fled. Officers were able to identify the driver as a 30-year-old man, who was wanted on a felony warrant. The officers located the suspect’s mother’s address and went to look for him. After obtaining consent to check her house, the officers found the suspect hiding in a bedroom closet. He was arrested without incident.
MCTF detectives responded to the South Precinct where they interviewed the suspect. He admitted to stealing the Honda two days earlier and eluding police. He also admitted to stealing at least three other vehicles recently. The suspect was later booked into the King County Jail for eluding and auto theft.
