Lane Restrictions for 3rd Ave Belltown Paving Project August 8-14

SDOT advises travelers that 3rd Ave will be reduced to a single, northbound lane between Cedar and Broad streets on Tuesday, August 8. Cedar St will also be closed to traffic between 3rd and 4th avenues from Friday night, August 11, through Monday morning, August 13. This work is part of the 3rd Ave Belltown Paving Project. This work is weather-dependent and subject to change.

From 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesday, August 8, travelers can expect:

  • 3rd Ave will be reduced to a single, northbound lane between Cedar and Broad streets.
  • Southbound 3rd Ave traffic will be rerouted to 2nd Ave at Broad St, and return to 3rd Ave at Cedar St.
  • A detour map will be available on the project website.
  • Local access will be maintained.
  • Clay St will remain closed to traffic between 3rd and 4th avenues. Traffic can access Clay St but cannot cross 3rd Ave at Clay St.

From 7 p.m. on Friday, August 11 to 4 a.m. on Monday, August 14, travelers can also expect:

  • Cedar St will be closed to traffic between 3rd and 4th avenues. Traffic can access Cedar St but cannot cross 3rd Ave at Cedar St.
  • After 4 a.m. on Monday, August 14, two-way traffic on Cedar St will be maintained.

Travelers can also expect the following changes on Clay and Vine streets:

  • Through this week, Clay St will remain closed to traffic between 3rd and 4th avenues while crews finish repaving 3rd Ave between Broad and Cedar streets.
  • Through mid-August, Vine St will remain closed to traffic between 2nd and 3rd avenues as crews work near the northwest corner of 3rd Ave and Vine St.
  • Traffic can access these side streets but cannot cross 3rd Ave. A detour map will be available on the project website.

For all roadways:

  • Pedestrian access will be maintained.
  • Police officers or flaggers will be present to assist with traffic when crews are working.
  • Emergency vehicles can access the work zone.
  • The work is expected to create construction-related noise, dust, vibration, and concrete odor.

Additionally, the southbound bus stop at 3rd Ave and Cedar St will continue to be relocated one block south, between Vine and Wall streets, through 4 a.m. on Sunday, October 1, while 3rd Ave is repaved between Vine and Broad streets.
