West Seattle Residential Home Fire

SEATTLE РOn July 15, 2017, at 5:57 a.m., firefighters were dispatched to the 3200 Blk. of 41st Ave. SW for a residential fire in a wood-frame structure.

When crews arrived, they saw smoke and flames coming from the back of the house. Firefighters began applying water on the fire and conducting ventilation operations. The fire started on the back porch and extended into the structure and up into the attic.

One occupant was home when the fire started, but had self-evacuated before crews arrived. The approx. 28-year-old female occupant was treated by SFD Medics and taken to Harborview Medical Center in an American Medical Response ambulance for minor injuries. Crews conducted primary and secondary searches and confirmed there were no other occupants in the home.

Fire investigators ruled the fire as accidental, and determined the cause was from discarded smoking materials. The estimated loss to the structure is $150,000 and contents is $50,000.
