On Monday, June 12, 2017, at 5:50 a.m., firefighters were dispatched to the 1200 Blk. of S. Cloverdale St. for a fire in a two-story residential home.
When crews arrived, they saw white smoke coming from the eaves of the structure. Firefighters quickly established a hose line and began applying water on the fire. Crews conducted ventilation operations and successfully extinguished the fire by 6:30 a.m. The fire was contained to a single bedroom on the second floor.
There were no reported injuries, however six adult males were displaced. The American Red Cross was notified to provide assistance to the displaced residents.
Fire Investigation Unit members ruled the fire as accidental and determined the cause was improperly discarded smoking materials. The estimated loss is $10,000.
