Seattle Park District provides funding for renovation of Soundview Playfield in northeast Seattle

Community encouraged to participate in design

Seattle Parks and Recreation (SPR) invites the community to an Open House on Saturday, June 3, 2017 to provide input on the renovation and design of the Soundview Playfield. Please join SPR’s staff from 1 to 3 p.m. at the playfield near the play area at 1590 NW 90th St. The proposed project will include installation of synthetic field surfacing, the addition of lighting, access improvements that meet the Americans with Disabilities Act, and other site enhancements. We will have a tent at the park near the play area with light refreshments and activities for children. Everyone is encouraged to attend to learn about the proposed project and provide input on the preferred design elements for the playfield.

SPR is investing in state-of-the-art synthetic turf systems that provide safe, playable, and durable fields. Additionally, we are investing in high quality energy-efficient field lighting which minimizes spill light and glare off the field while providing recreation light on the field. SPR is committed to renovating the lower playfield with synthetic turf and lighting. We anticipate providing additional improvements for the upper field that will be defined by the budget. These upgrades will address recreational demands and repair field drainage issues.

Funding for this park project is provided by the Seattle Park District. Approved by Seattle voters in 2014, the Seattle Park District provides more than $47 million a year in long-term funding for Seattle Parks and Recreation including maintenance of parklands and facilities, operation of community centers and recreation programs, and development of new neighborhood parks on previously acquired sites.
