Pier 54 Water Rescue

SEATTLE – Firefighters rushed to Pier 54 on Tuesday, May 2, 2017, at 5:03 p.m. for reports of an adult female in the water hanging onto a pier.

When first responders arrived they found Seattle Police Department (SPD) officers holding the patient alongside the pier. Seattle firefighter land units and Marine Emergency Response Team firefighters in a small skiff assisted in removing the patient from the water and onto the pier where she was moved to an SFD Medic Unit for evaluation.

Patient information and other witness accounts led first responders to consider the possibility of there being another person in the water. Seattle Fire Department Rescue 1 put divers in the water to conduct targeted searches of the area where the person was thought to have entered the water. SFD divers described the visibility as “good” in the 30-foot depth. Primary and secondary searches were conducted and after about an hour no additional person was found.

SPD, SPD Harbor Patrol, and the U.S. Coast Guard assisted in conducting searches and providing safety zone security for SFD divers.
