3rd Ave Repaving through Belltown Begins May 2

SDOT advises travelers that crews working on behalf of SDOT will begin the repaving of 3rd Ave through Belltown from Virginia St to Broad St this Tuesday, May 2. The project is expected to take about 10 months to complete.

Beginning at 7 a.m. on Tuesday, May 2, traffic in both directions of 3rd Ave will be reduced to a single curb lane in each direction through the active construction area. In addition, there will be some weekends when traffic will be reduced to a single northbound or southbound lane, with opposing traffic detoured to either 2nd Ave or 4th Ave.

To minimize construction impacts, the work has been divided into four work zones that will start from the south and move north. Contractor crews are required to complete major work in one zone before moving onto the next. The zones along 3rd Ave are:

  • Virginia St to mid-block north of Lenora St
  • Mid-block north of Lenora St to Battery St
  • Battery St to mid-block north of Vine St
  • Vine St to Broad St

Construction will require the short-term closure of intersections as they are repaved. However, the following high traffic volume intersections will remain open during the week, with construction limited to weekends:

  • 3rd Ave and Lenora St
  • 3rd Ave and Wall St
  • 3rd Ave and Cedar St

For questions or concerns, please call the project information line at 206-727-3669 or email the project team. More information can also be found on the 3rd Ave Belltown Paving Project page. SDOT would like to thank the public for its patience while this work is completed.
