Seattle Center invites public comment on new Seattle Center Monorail proposed fare rates to go into effect on May 1, 2017. The proposed increases affect adult and youth fares as well as adult monthly passes and reduced rate fares. Roundtrip fares remain at twice the price of a one-way fare. Group rate discounts reflect the proposed fare increase.
Following are details on the fare increases:
- Adult one-way, currently $2.25, increases to $2.50.
- Youth one-way, currently $1, increases to $1.25.
- Reduced rate one-way, currently $1, increases to $1.25.
- Adult monthly pass, currently $45, increases to $50.
- Reduced monthly pass, currently $20, increases to $25.
Adult one-way fares increased by $.25 in 2011. Youth and reduced fares have remained unchanged since 2006. Seniors (65 years of age and older), people with disabilities, Medicare Card holders and U.S. military with valid ID qualify for reduced rates.
Seattle Center will accept comments at a public meeting, 5:30 p.m., Wednesday, April 12, in Seattle Center Armory Loft #3. The public also may comment on the proposed fare increases via email: email@example.com or by phone: 206-615-0258 through Friday, April 14.
Built for the 1962 Seattle World’s Fair, the red and blue Monorail trains depart every 10 minutes from the station at Seattle Center and from Westlake Center Mall at 5th and Pine Street. Each trip takes two minutes, and each train can carry up to 250 passengers per trip. The trains have undergone significant renovations over the past 10 years to provide an enjoyable and reliable ride well into the 21st century.
