Detours at 23rd Ave E and E Madison St this Saturday, February 18

SDOT advises travelers of weekend construction and an intersection closure at 23rd Ave E and E Madison St on Saturday, February 18, while crews complete work on the 23rd Avenue Corridor Improvements Project. Local access will be provided to residences and businesses. This schedule is subject to change.

From 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday, February 18, travelers can expect the following:

  • The intersection of 23rd Ave E and E Madison St will be closed to traffic in all directions. Local access to destinations near the intersection will be provided.
  • E Madison St between 19th Ave and E John St will be open for local access only.
  • Southbound 23rd Ave E between E John St and E Union St will be open for local access only.
  • Detours around the intersection of 23rd Ave E and E Madison St include:
  • For southbound 23rd Ave E traffic, drivers will follow a detour via a right turn on E John St, continue on E Thomas St to 19th Ave. To return to 23rd Ave, use E Union St.
  • Northbound 23rd Ave remains closed between E Union and E John streets; drivers will follow the regular construction detour from E Union St to Martin Luther King Jr Way to E John St where they can return to 23rd Ave E.
  • For westbound E Madison St traffic, drivers will take E John St to E Thomas St. To return to E Madison St, use 19th Ave.
  • For eastbound E Madison St traffic, drivers will take 19th Ave to E Thomas St, continue on E John St to return to E Madison St.
  • King County Metro routes 11 and 48 (southbound) will be temporarily detoured around the intersection during this work. For information about bus service and Rider Alerts, visit Metro Online at http://metro.kingcounty.gov/alerts/ or call 206-553-3000.
  • Pedestrian crossings will be maintained and clearly marked.
