“Flight of Dreams” Presents International Expansion Opportunity for Seattle Businesses

On Friday, January 27 the Chubu Centrair International Airport in Nagoya, Japan announced a Seattle-themed exhibition and retail space to open in the summer of 2018.  The “Flight of Dreams” exhibition hall, to be located between Terminal 1 and a planned Terminal 2, will showcase the first Boeing 787 aircraft.  Manufacturers in the Nagoya area are major suppliers to the 787 program.  Centrair Airport is working in collaboration with the City of Seattle in the commercial area of the exhibition hall which will feature Seattle retailers and brands.  The project will introduce global travelers to Seattle businesses and products in an atmosphere that replicates Seattle’s diverse and welcoming climate.

Centrair Airport officials have already announced three local business partners that will be participating in the “Flight of Dreams” project. Two classic Seattle institutions, Boeing and Starbucks, are opening stores in the commercial area of the exhibition hall. Also, Pike Brewing Restaurant and Bar will have space in the commercial zone. Pike Brewing first opened at Pike Place in 1989 at a time when microbreweries were not so common. Brewery founders Charles and Rose Ann Finkel were on hand at the ceremony on January 27 in Nagoya to announce their participation in the new venture which will introduce their brand to a wider audience in Japan.

“The City of Seattle is very pleased to collaborate with the Chubu Centrair International Airport in Nagoya on the new ZA001 pavilion project,” said Seattle Mayor Ed Murray.  “The new pavilion will highlight the important connections between the cities of Seattle and Nagoya and will give visitors to the airport an authentic taste of Seattle culture and products. We look forward to working closely with Centrair and the Nagoya region to develop even closer ties in the future”.
