Reminder: University Bridge Closing For Two More Upcoming Weekends, July 29 – August 1 and August 5 – 8

SDOT advises travelers that the University Bridge will close for a second weekend at the end of July and a third weekend in August, for repairs and maintenance. These closures are necessary so crews can work safely and efficiently while paving the approach sections of the bridge as well as the bike lanes. The first bridge closure was July 22-25.

Beginning as early as 8 p.m. on Friday through 5 a.m. on Monday, SDOT expects to close the University Bridge the following weekends with some night work:

  • Friday, July 29 through Monday, August 1
  • Friday, August 5 through Monday, August 8

Three closures are necessary due to the sequence of work, beginning with removing old pavement and inspecting and repairing the base layer of concrete and expansion joints. Once this work is complete, crews will overlay the new pavement and allow time for it to cure. Crews will also complete maintenance activities on the Campus Parkway Bridge.

This work is part of the Roosevelt Way NE Paving and Safety Project, making safety improvements for all users along Roosevelt Way NE between NE 65th Street and the University Bridge. Construction began in March 2016 and is expected to be completed in early fall.

For more information on this project, email the project team at RooseveltCorridor@seattle.gov or call (206) 727-3575. Additional information can be found on the project website at http://www.seattle.gov/transportation/pave_roosevelt.htm.  The University Bridge closure will affect Metro bus routes 49, 70 and 83.
