Events Traffic Advisory for Thursday, July 14 – Sunday, July 17

SDOT advises travelers to be aware of the following events happening around the city this week that will affect area traffic. The Bite of Seattle starts Friday at Seattle Center. The Seattle to Portland Bicycle Classic starts at UW on Saturday morning. Dragon Fest in the Chinatown-International District is on Saturday and Sunday. The Mariners play Friday through the weekend at Safeco Field with afternoon games on Saturday and Sunday.


Bite of Seattle: The three-day food festival at Seattle Center runs Friday and Saturday, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., Sunday, 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. About 50,000 people are expected to attend per day.


Seattle to Portland Bicycle Classic: The ride starts at the University of Washington at 4:45 a.m. The last group leaves at 7:30 a.m. Most riders leave the city limits by 9 a.m. About 10,000 riders are expected to participate.

Seafair Derby Day: The Seafair Milk Carton Derby at Green Lake goes from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. About 4,000 people are expected to attend.


Seattle Bon Odori Festival: The Japanese Buddhist Festival featuring music, dancing and food booths runs Saturday, 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. and Sunday, 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. on S Main St between 14th and 16th Ave S. The street closes Friday at 5 p.m. and reopens Sunday at 11:30 p.m. About 4,900 people are expected to attend throughout the weekend.

Dragon Fest: The weekend festival in the Chinatown-International District featuring Dragon and Lion dances, martial arts demonstrations and a food walk. Hours: Saturday, 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday, 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. S King St will be closed from 5th Ave S to 7th Ave S and the cross streets of 6th Ave S and Maynard Ave S will be closed from S Weller to S Jackson streets. About 24,000 people are expected over the weekend.

Boeing Centennial: The Boeing Company’s 100th year anniversary celebration is at The Museum of Flight. E Marginal Way S will be closed south of the South Park Bridge. Traffic will be detoured over the South Park Bridge, onto 14th Avenue S, to W Marginal Way Pl S, to S 102nd St and back to East Marginal Way S. Closure times: Saturday, July 16, 9:30 a.m. to Sunday July 17th, 1 a.m. and Sunday July 17th, 9:30 a.m. to Monday, July 18th, at 1 a.m.


Swedish SummeRun & Walk: A 5K run and walk for ovarian cancer research in the First Hill neighborhood. The race starts at 8:15 a.m. and ends at 12 p.m. Course starts on Minor Ave at Madison St, heads north to Seneca St, east onto E Union St, north on 12th Ave, west on Aloha St and south on 11th Ave back down to the race start. About 3,100 people are expected to participate.

Go Klondike Legacy Day: A celebration of the day Seattle struck gold featuring 1890’s entertainment, a salmon BBQ, a living history show and kids activities. The festival is on 2nd Ave S between S Jackson and S Main streets from 12 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. 2nd Ave S closes to traffic at 9:00 a.m. About 750 people are expected to attend.

Georgetown Cycling Criterium: A bicycle race through Georgetown runs from 9:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. The course will close Denver Ave S and S Brandon St from Maynard Ave S to 5th Ave S, 5th and 6th Avenues S from S Dawson to S Lucille Streets, and S Lucille St from 5th to 6th Ave S from 8 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. About 600 people are expected to attend.


Friday, July 15th, Mariners vs. Houston, 7:10 p.m. About 39,000 people are expected to attend.

Saturday, July 16th, Mariners vs. Houston, 1:10 p.m. About 39,000 people are expected to attend.

Sunday, July 17th, Mariners vs. Houston, 1:10 p.m. About 36,000 people are expected to attend.
