A 21-year-old man is in custody and a 22-year-old woman is at Harborview Medical Center with life-threatening injuries after she was assaulted Sunday afternoon in a residence in the University District.
Shortly after 2:00 pm, officers responded to a 911 call of a disturbance in the 2200 Block of NE 50th Street. When officers arrived, they too could hear people arguing inside the residence. Officers knocked on the door but there was no answer. Officers looked in a window and could see a man violently assaulting the female victim. Officers forced open the door and pulled the man off the victim. Officers then began performing CPR on the unresponsive woman until the Seattle Fire Department arrived. Medics transported the woman to Harborview Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.
Officers arrested the 21-year-old man who was interviewed by detectives. The suspect was later booked into the King County Jail for Investigation of Domestic Violence Assault.
Both the man and woman are students at the University of Washington. The department is coordinating with the UW during this investigation.
The Homicide and Assault Unit will continue to handle the follow up investigation.
