SAS performs 54 free spay and neuter procedures to commemorate World Spay Day 2016

To commemorate Feb. 23, 2016, as “World Spay Day,” the Seattle Animal Shelter’s Spay and Neuter Clinic offered free spay/neuter surgeries to area pets from Feb. 22-26, 2016. Additionally, Mayor Ed Murray proclaimed Feb. 23 as “World Spay and Neuter Day” in Seattle.

“Spaying and neutering allows your pet to have a longer, healthier, happier life,” said Dr. Mary Ellen Zoulas, director of the Spay and Neuter Clinic. She said that spaying and neutering can reduce the risk of serious health problems and eliminate undesirable behavior such as fighting and spraying and reduce inter-dog aggression.

During the promotion, the Spay and Neuter Clinic performed 54 free spay and neuter procedures:

  • 17 dog spays
  • 15 dog neuters
  • 9 cat spays
  • 7 cat neuters
  • 4 rabbit spays
  • 2 rabbit neuters

The free spay and neuter procedure promotion was possible in part because of a grant from the Seattle Animal Shelter Foundation.
