Plum Street Fire Ruled Accidental

March 2- Seattle Fire investigators have determined an overnight fatal fire was accidental. Investigators believe the fire was caused by an electrical malfunction on the back porch which spread to the inside of the home.

Firefighters responded to reports of a fire in the 2000 block of South Plum Street at 11:24 p.m.  As firefighters approached the address, they could see smoke and flames from a block away. The first responding firefighters on Engine 30 located the fire in a covered back porch. Neighbors reported to firefighters that an elderly person lived in the home.  Firefighters searched the residence and found the 96-year old man deceased in the kitchen. Firefighters had water on the fire within minutes of their arrival on scene.

The total damage to the building and contents was estimated at 150-thousand dollars.
