Weekday Detours at 23rd Avenue and East Yesler Way Feb. 15 – 22

SDOT is advising travelers of upcoming daytime construction, detours, and partial closures of the East Yesler Way and 23rd Avenue intersection. The intersection will be partially closed on weekdays from Feb. 15 – 22 as crews complete paving and electrical work as part of the 23rd Avenue Corridor Improvements Project. Local access will be provided to residences and businesses. The paving work schedule is weather dependent and subject to change. See details below.

Throughout the duration of the East Yesler Way work:

  • Southbound traffic on 23rd Avenue will be maintained at all times; northbound 23rd Avenue remains closed between South Jackson and East Union streets.
  • Northbound drivers on 23rd Avenue will follow the regular detour on South Jackson Street to Martin Luther King Jr Way to East Union Street where they can return to 23rd Avenue.
  • There will be partial eastbound and westbound closures on the dates specified below, but the intersection will be re-opened to eastbound and westbound traffic the weekend of Feb. 20 – 21.

On Feb. 15, 16, and 22, travelers can expect:

  • The intersection at East Yesler Way and 23rd Avenue will be fully closed to westbound traffic; eastbound traffic will be able to travel south at the intersection.
  • East Yesler Way will be local access only between Martin Luther King Jr Way and 24th Avenue.
  • Detours around the intersection of East Yesler Way at 23rd Avenue include:

o             For westbound traffic on East Yesler Way, drivers will take Martin Luther King Jr Way to South Jackson Street. To return to East Yesler Way, use 20th Avenue South.

o             For eastbound traffic on East Yesler Way, drivers will take 23rd Avenue South to South Jackson Street. To return to East Yesler Way, use Martin Luther King Jr Way.

On Feb. 17 – 19, travelers can expect:

  • The intersection at East Yesler Way and 23rd Avenue will be fully closed to eastbound traffic; westbound traffic will be able to travel south at the intersection.
  • East Yesler Way will be local access only between 20th Avenue South and 22nd Avenue.
  • Detours around the intersection of East Yesler Way at 23rd Avenue include:

o             For eastbound traffic on East Yesler Way, drivers will take 20th Avenue South to South Jackson Street. To return to East Yesler Way, use Martin Luther King Jr Way.

o             For westbound traffic on East Yesler Way, drivers will take 23rd Avenue South to South Jackson Street. To return to East Yesler Way, use 20th Avenue South.
