SDOT is advising travelers to be aware of several events happening around the city through the weekend, and on Monday that will affect area traffic. There are events scheduled celebrating Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. beginning Friday, through the weekend, and on Monday, which is a federal holiday honoring the birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
FRIDAY, JANUARY 15th:
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Birthday March: Students from the McDonald International School at 144 NE 54th St will march on the sidewalks in the Greenlake/Latona neighborhood in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. About 500 people are expected participate.
Orca K-8 School MLK March: Students from Orca K-8 will march through Columbia City in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Seattle Police will escort the march at 10 a.m. About 650 people are expected to participate.
SATURDAY, JANUARY 16th:
Martin Luther King Jr. March and Symposium: Seattle Parks and Recreation will host a youth march and celebration of Dr. King, Jr. at Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Park and the Rainier Community Center. The march is open to all community members starting at 10:30 a.m. About 300 people are expected to participate.
MONDAY, JANUARY 18th:
Martin Luther King Jr. Committee 34th Annual March & Rally: The MLK Celebration Committee will host the march and celebration honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The march leaves Garfield High School at 12:30 p.m. and travels west on E. Jefferson St, north on 12th Ave, west on E Madison St, to the Federal Building at 2nd Ave and Madison St. A rally will follow at 1:45 p.m. at the Federal Building plaza. About 5,200 people are expected to participate.
