Twelfth Avenue at East Howell Street construction continues

On Monday, Nov. 23, the Seattle Department of Transportation will reopen the East Olive Street and Twelfth Avenue intersection and temporarily close the east side of the East Howell Street and Twelfth Avenue intersection to all traffic to continue building safety improvements. This closure will last for approximately three weeks, depending on the weather. Travelers can expect the following construction impacts:

  • Construction activity from 7 a.m. – 5 p.m., Monday – Friday.
  • Parking and lane restrictions on Twelfth Avenue between East Pine Street and East Denny Way. A flagger will be present to maintain two-way traffic.
  • Temporary closure of the east side of the East Howell Street and Twelfth Avenue intersection. Local access will be maintained at all times.
  • Pedestrian and bicycle detours around the work areas. People riding bicycles will be directed to merge with vehicle traffic. Pedestrian detours will vary. Please follow posted signage.
  • Temporary closure of the United States Postal Service collection box at the corner of Twelfth Avenue and East Howell Street.
  • Noise, dust and vibration associated with concrete removal and paving.

The goal of these improvements is to allow safer crossings for pedestrians and improve mobility for all users. The improvements will include:

  • Curb extensions to facilitate safer, shorter crossings for people crossing the street
  • ADA-compliant curb ramps for smoother and better access
  • New striped crosswalks that cross Twelfth Avenue at East Howell and East Olive streets
  • Drainage improvements at both intersections

This project is funded by the Bridging the Gap transportation levy, through the Neighborhood Street Fund Program.
