Events Advisory for Tuesday, Aug. 25 – Sunday, Aug. 30

SDOT is advising travelers to be aware of several events happening around the city through the weekend that will affect area traffic. The Mariners play Tuesday night and Wednesday afternoon at Safeco. The PAX Penny Arcade Convention runs Friday through Monday at the Washington State Convention and Center and Paramount. Two 5K events are Saturday in the Central District and International District respectively. The Sounders play the Timbers on Sunday at CenturyLink.

MARINERS AT SAFECO FIELD:

  • Tuesday, August 25, Mariners vs. Oakland, at 7:10 p.m. About 26,000 people are expected.
  • Wednesday, August 26, Mariners vs. Oakland, at 12:40 p.m. About 34,000 people are expected.

FRIDAY, AUGUST 28 – MONDAY, AUGUST 31:

PAX EXPO:  Penny Arcade’s annual convention dedicated to gaming with concerts, exhibits, panels and tournaments at the Washington State Convention Center and Paramount Theater. The event runs from 9 a.m. to 12 a.m. Friday through Sunday, and from 9 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Monday.  8th Avenue will be closed between 6 a.m. to 11 a.m. between Pike and Seneca streets for line queuing each day, and 9th Avenue will be closed from Pine to Pike streets between 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Friday and Monday with a full closure on Saturday and Sunday. Over 20,000 attendees are expected each day.

SATURDAY, AUGUST 29:

UNCF BIKE, WALK, RIDE FOR EDUCATION:  The 22nd annual fundraiser to help students get to and through college starts at Pratt Park at 8 a.m. The family friendly 5K walk, run and bike ride starts at 9 a.m. on streets throughout the Central District. The route heads north on 20th Ave S, east on E Yesler, north on MLK Jr. Way, west on E Cherry, south on 12th Ave, turning eastbound on E Yesler returning to the park.  A 22-mile bike ride will follow the shore along Lake Washington Blvd from Pratt to Seward parks. About 250 people are expected to attend.

HOOPS FOR HOPE: The Jim Marsh Classic, 3-on-3 basketball tournament in Georgetown to raise awareness and support for Mentoring Works Washington and the NW Parkinson’s Foundation. The tournament takes place on Saturday from 9 a.m. to5 p.m. and on Sunday from 9 a.m.to 3:30 p.m. on Airport Way S between S Carsten and S Bailey streets.

NEPO 5K DON’T RUN 2015:  The Art Walk 5K starts at Hing Hay Park at 12 p.m. and travels to Beacon Hill to finish with a festival, food and music on 18th Ave S and S Lander Streets from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. The walk will take place on sidewalks with about 1,000 people participating.

SUNDAY, AUGUST 30:

SOUNDERS FC AT CENTURYLINK FIELD: Sounders FC plays Portland Timbers at CenturyLink Field at 2 p.m. About 50,000 people are expected to attend.
