Special Events Advisory for Wednesday, August 19 – Sunday, August 24

The Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) advises travelers to be aware of several events happening around the city through the weekend that will affect area traffic. The Sounders have a match Wednesday night at CenturyLink. The Mariners play Friday through Sunday at Safeco. The Seattle Marathon 10K and three other runs including the Iron Girl Triathlon are Saturday and Sunday respectively. A free KEXP concert is expected to draw a large crowd on Sunday night at the Pike Place Market.

WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 19:

SOUNDERS FC AT CENTURYLINK FIELD: Sounders FC plays C.D. Olimpia at CenturyLink Field at7 p.m.  About 20,000 people are expected to attend.

SATURDAY, AUGUST 22:

Seattle Marathon 10K Race 2015:  The race starts at Gasworks Park, continues on N Northlake Way to the Burke Gilman trail through Fremont to Leary Way NW turning at 3rd Ave NW.  The race returns on Canal Street to 34th on to N Pacific Street then the Burke Gilman trail turning around under the Ship Canal Bridge to return to Gas Works. Street detours go from 6:30 a.m. to 12 pm. About 1,800 participants are expected.

Emerald City Pet Rescue:  The celebration features local bands, food trucks and silent auction in the parking lot at 1st Ave S and S Hanford Street.  The event runs from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. and about 200 people and one miniature horse are expected to attend.

Summit Block Party: The block party on Capitol Hill starts at 12 p.m. and will have local artists, musicians and craft-makers. Summit Avenue will be closed from 9 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. between E Olive and E Howell streets.  About 700 people are expected to attend.

SUNDAY, AUGUST 23:

Iron Girl Seattle Triathlon:  The triathlon begins with a ½ mile swim; followed by a run that starts at Genesee Park and travels along Lake Washington Blvd to Seward Park; followed by a 12-mile bike ride over to Mercer Island and back on the I-90 Express lanes. The event goes from 5 a.m. until 12 p.m. About 2,500 people are expected to participate.

Alki Beach Run: The Northwest Hope and Healing Foundation benefit 5K run starts at 9 a.m. on Alki Ave SW at the Bathhouse near 63rd Ave SW, travels eastbound along the beach turning at Anchor Park and back to the start.  About 1,100 people expected to participate.

Run Like a Viking: Costumed runners will gather for the 5K run that starts at Golden Gardens and continues along Seaview Place NW and the Burke Gilman Trail.  The race begins at 8 a.m. through 11 a.m.  About 500 participants are expected.

Maritime Pacific Brewing Company:  The brewery celebrates its 25th anniversary with food, music and bouncy toys for the kids.  NW Ballard Way between 11th Ave and 14th Ave NW will be closed at 11:30 p.m. on Friday through 11:30 p.m. on Saturday.  The celebration runs from 11a.m. until 8 p.m. Saturday. About 850 people are expected to attend.

Raw Power KEXP: A free concert from the roof of the Pike Place Market benefiting KEXP’s new home.  Four Seattle music icons including Mike McCready and Duff McKagan will perform their favorite Stooges’ songs at 7p.m.  Pike Place will be closed between Pike and Virginia streets between 3p.m. and 9 p.m.  About 9,000 people are expected to fill the streets for the 25-minute tribute concert.

MARINERS AT SAFECO FIELD:

  • Friday, August 21, Mariners vs. White Sox, 7:10 p.m. About 34,000 people are expected to attend.
  • Saturday, August 22, Mariners vs. White Sox, 6:10 p.m. About 40,000 people are expected to attend.
  • Sunday, August 23, Mariners vs. White Sox, 1:10 p.m. About 31,000 people are expected to attend.
