The Seattle Department of Transportation advises travelers of weekend construction, detours, and a full closure at the intersection of East Jefferson Street and 23rd Avenue while crews complete demolition, water main connections, and paving work as part of the 23rd Avenue Corridor Improvements Project. The intersection will be fully closed to all directions of travel, though access up to the intersection will be provided for residents and businesses to reach their driveways.
Beginning at 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 21 through 6 a.m. Monday, Aug. 24, travelers can expect the following:
- The East Jefferson Street and 23rd Avenue intersection will be closed to traffic in all directions.
- East Jefferson Street will be open only for local access between 21st and 23rd avenues.
- 23rd Avenue southbound lanes will be open only for local access between East Cherry Street and East Alder Street; northbound 23rd Avenue remains closed between South Jackson and East Cherry Street.
- Detours around the intersection of East Jefferson Street at 23rd Avenue include:
- For southbound 23rd Avenue traffic, drivers will follow a detour via East Cherry Street to Martin Luther King Junior Way, with a right on East Yesler Way to return to 23rd Avenue.
- For northbound 23rd Avenue traffic, drivers will follow the regular construction detour on South Jackson Street to Martin Luther King Jr Way to East Cherry Street, where they can return to 23rd Avenue.
- For eastbound East Jefferson Street traffic, drivers will take 14th Avenue to East Cherry Street.
- Pedestrian crossings will be maintained and businesses will remain open and accessible.
- Flaggers and uniformed police officers will be present to manage traffic and assist pedestrians.
