Events Advisory for Thursday, Aug. 6 – Sunday, Aug. 9

SDOT is advising travelers to be aware of several events happening around the city through the weekend that will affect area traffic. The Mariners play Friday through the weekend. Salmonfest runs Friday through Sunday. South Lake Union Block Party occurs all day Friday. Taylor Swift plays at CenturyLink Field on Saturday. On Sunday morning, bicyclists will ride in Obliteride.

THURSDAY, AUG. 6:

Post Alley Hooley: Downtown community celebration and alley activation in Post Avenue from Pike to Columbia Streets. Alleys will be staffed by block captains and hosted by local businesses from 5 to 9 p.m. and will remain open except for Post Avenue between Marion and Columbia streets. About 520 people are expected to attend.

FRIDAY, AUG. 7-SUNDAY, AUG. 9:

Salmonfest: The Lake City Neighborhood Street Festival, Salmon Bake, Car Show and Parade.  The festival starts Friday at 12 to7 p.m., 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday, and 11 to 7 p.m. on Sunday.  NE 125th Street from Lake City Way to 26th Avenue NE and 28th Avenue NE from NE 127th to NE 125th streets will be closed from 3 a.m. Saturday until 9 p.m. Sunday. About 9,600 people are expected to attend over the weekend.

FRIDAY, AUG. 7:

Greatest Party Known to Humankind: Bike races and the celebration of biking through the streets of Georgetown. 12th Avenue South will be closed from South Baily to South Vale streets from 12 p.m. to 2 a.m. Saturday. About 3,100 people are expected to attend.

South Lake Union Block Party: Food, music and art in the South Lake Union Discovery Center Park from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. John Street between Westlake and Ninth avenues will be closed from 6 a.m. Thursday until 6 p.m. Saturday. About 3,100 people are expected to attend.

SATURDAY, AUG. 8

Phinneywood Summer Streets and Soccer Tournament: Vendors, food and music and a soccer tournament on Greenwood Avenue from 12 to 7 p.m. Greenwood Avenue North will be closed at 9 a.m. between NW 67th and NW 87th streets.  About 3,100 people are expected to attend.

Magnolia Village Car Show: The annual automobile enthusiasts’ car show runs from    8 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. West McGraw Street will be closed between 32nd and 34th avenues. About 1000 people are expected to attend.

Taylor Swift at CenturyLink Field: TSwift fans gather at CenturyLink Field for the 1989 tour concert with doors opening at 5 p.m. The show starts at 7 p.m. About 50,000 people are expected to attend.

SUNDAY, AUG. 9 

Lake Union 10K: Seventh annual walk or run around Lake Union on the Cheshiahud Loop Trail. Race starts and finished in South Lake Union Park. Race begins at 7:00 a.m. with about 1,250 participants.

Obliteride: Bike riders will cycle from 10 miles to 150 miles while raising funds for cancer research. Cyclists will leave the Fred Hutchinson campus between 7:00-10:30 a.m.  About 5,700 people are expected to attend.

MARINERS AT SAFECO FIELD:

  • Seattle Mariners vs. Texas Rangers on Friday, August 7th at 7:10 p.m. About 32,000 people are expected to attend.
  • Seattle Mariners vs. Texas Rangers on Saturday, August 8th at 7:10 p.m. About 39,000 people are expected to attend.
  • Seattle Mariners vs. Texas Rangers on Sunday, Aug. 9th at 1:10 p.m. About 32,000 people are expected to attend.
