Reminder: 23rd Avenue S and Jackson Street detours this weekend, July 24-27

The Seattle Department of Transportation advises travelers of delays due to weekend construction at the intersection of South Jackson Street and 23rd Avenue South, weather permitting. Crews will close the intersection in order to continue demolition and paving the intersection and crosswalks as part of the 23rd Avenue Corridor Improvements Project. The intersection will be fully closed to all directions of travel, though local access will be maintained and businesses accessible. Drivers should follow posted detour routes and avoid cutting through local neighborhood streets.

Beginning at 9 p.m. Friday, July 24 through 6 a.m. Monday, July 27, travelers can expect the following:

  • The South Jackson Street and 23rd Avenue South intersection will be closed to traffic in all directions.
  • South Jackson Street between 20th Avenue and Martin Luther King Jr Way will be closed to through traffic and open only to local traffic.
  • 23rd Avenue between East Yesler Way and South King Street will be only open for local access; northbound 23rd Avenue remains closed between South Jackson and East Cherry streets.
  • Detours around the intersection of South Jackson Street at 23rd Avenue South:
      • Drivers headed southbound on 23rd Avenue will follow a detour via East Yesler Way to 20th Avenue South, continuing on South Judkins Street to 23rd Avenue.
      • Drivers headed northbound on 23rd Avenue will take South Judkins Street to 20th Avenue South to East Yesler Way to Martin Luther King Jr Way, returning to 23rd Avenue at East Cherry Street.
      • For westbound drivers on South Jackson Street, take Martin Luther King Jr Way to East Yesler Way. To return to South Jackson Street, use 20th Avenue South.
      • For those headed eastbound on South Jackson Street, take 20th Avenue South to East Yesler Way. To return to South Jackson Street, use Martin Luther King Jr Way.

Flaggers and uniformed police officers will be present to manage traffic and assist pedestrians.Pedestrian crossings will be maintained and businesses will remain open and accessible.
