Officers arrested a man Saturday afternoon after he grabbed a purse, crashed a car, and led police on a foot chase though Magnolia yards.
Witnesses called 911 at 3:45 PM today when they saw a man reach into a car, steal a purse, and jump into a waiting car, which was also stolen. They said the suspect’s car was speeding away from the 2600 block of W. Marina Pl. toward the Magnolia bridge.
An officer searching for the suspect was checking parking lots when he spotted the vehicle. The suspect sped away, momentarily losing the officer. The suspect quickly lost control of the car and crashed into another vehicle causing the suspect’s car to land on its roof. The suspect was able to crawl out of the now burning car and run away just as officers pulled up to the scene.
Officer Mark Wong and his K-9 partner Ziva began tracking the suspect. They tracked him for 20 minutes eventually finding him in the 3200 block of 44 Ave. W.
Seattle Fire Medics treated the suspect at the scene for injuries he sustained in the car crash. They took him to Harborview Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.
Major Crimes Task Force detectives were notified and have begun interviewing the suspect whom they believe to be involved in a string of burglaries throughout the city.
