Washington State Department of Transportation

Come out to the ballpark to learn more about this weekend’s eastbound I-90 work

The media is invited to learn more about this weekend’s work on Interstate 90 that will reduce eastbound traffic across Lake Washington to one lane. Seattle area drivers, including Mariners fans heading to and from Safeco Field, should plan ahead for delays on Interstate 90 and I-5, and consider alternate routes such as State Route 520 or I-405.

From 11 p.m. Friday, May 15, until 5 a.m. Monday, May 18, eastbound I-90 traffic will be reduced to one lane just before the Mount Baker Tunnel then rerouted to the express. Contractor crews working on the Washington State Department of Transportation and Sound Transit’s I-90 Two-Way Transit and HOV Operations Project will be upgrading operation and safety systems in the eastbound Mount Baker and Mercer Island tunnels.

WSDOT’s Annie Johnson and Sound Transit’s Bruce Gray will be available at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 12, to answer questions about the work. They will also provide tips for drivers to help navigate the weekend work, including taking Sound Transit express bus and Sounder service to see the Mariners take on the Red Sox.
