Events Traffic Advisory for Thursday, March 12 – Sunday, March 15

SDOT is advising travelers to be aware of events happening around the city through the weekend. There are two KeyArena events that will bring added traffic to the area this week. There are several St. Patrick’s Day-related events happening that will have significant traffic impact: starting with Friday’s “Laying of the Green Stripe”, Saturday’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade and the Irish Festival at Kell’s; and Sunday’s St. Patrick’s Day Dash. The Sounders play San Jose Saturday night at Centurylink with kickoff at 7 p.m.

KeyArena Events:

WWE Live Road to WrestleMania is on Friday, March 13 from 7:30 p.m. to 11 p.m. There are about 8,000 people expected to attend.

WaMu Theater Events:

The “Lucky 2015” Electronic Music concert is Friday, March 13 and goes from 6:30 p.m. – 1:30 a.m. About 8,000 people are expected to attend.

5thAvenue Theater:

There are student matinee showings of Rodgers’ and Hammerstein’s musical Carousel on both Thursday, March 11and Friday, March 12, from 9:00 a.m. to about 2:30 p.m. There are about 1,000 people expected each day. School buses will drop off and pick up students on streets near Benaroya Hall (University St, Seneca St, and 2nd Ave), and on the west side of 5th Ave. between Union St. and University St. Seattle Police will assist with bus traffic; expect congestion in the vicinity of Benaroya Hall and The 5thAvenue Theater.

Laying of the Green Stripe:

On Friday March, 13, the Seattle Police will escort approximately 140 participants down 4th Ave. (between S. Washington and Pine streets) while they mark the route of the St. Patrick’s Day Parade with biodegradable green paint. The event starts at 7:00 p.m. and last about an hour.

Kell’s Irish Restaurant Annual St. Patrick’s Day Festival:

The event is Friday March 13 on Post Alley between Stewart and Virginia streets. A beer garden in will be in place on Post Alley adjacent to Kell’s starting at 7:00 p.m. on Friday until 2:00 a.m. on Wednesday. About 300 people are expected with likely congestion in the area.

St. Patrick’s Day Parade:

On Saturday March 14, about 4,700 people are expected at the parade that starts at 12:30 p.m. The route begins at 4th Avenue at James Street; goes north on 4th to Pine Street and Westlake Park; parade staging is on 4th Ave. between S. Washington and James streets, and on Dilling Way between 4th Avenue and Yesler Way; staging area is closed between 10:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.

St. Patrick’s Day Dash:

On Sunday March 15, about 13,000 people are expected to attend. Staging will be on Mercer Street between 1st Avenue N and 4thAvenue N. The Race starts in four waves at 8:30 a.m., 8:40 a.m.; 8:50 a.m., and 9:00 a.m. The staging area will be closed beginning at 6:00 a.m. to about 11:00 .m. The route starts at 3rd Avenue N and Mercer Street; travels east on Mercer to 5thAvenue N; south on 5th to Cedar Street; south on Cedar to 4thAve; south on 4th to Seneca Street; makes a U-turn, north on 4th to Denny Way; west on Denny to 2nd Avenue N; north on 2nd onto the Seattle Center campus. There is also a Leprechaun Kid’s Run at 8:00 a.m.; route: start at 3rd Avenue N and Mercer Street; east on Mercer to 5thAvenue N; south on 5th to the finish at Republican Street.

Seattle Sounders at CenturyLink Field:

The Sounders FC vs. San Jose Earthquakes on Saturday, March 14 at 7:00 p.m. 34,000 people are expected to attend.
