Events Traffic Advisory for Tuesday, February 24 – Sunday, March 1

SDOT is advising travelers to be aware of events happening around the city through the weekend. The most significant event impact on traffic will be lane closures of Aurora Avenue N/SR-99 early Sunday morning for two runs that start and finish at the Seattle Center. There is a lecture at Benaroya Hall on Tuesday; and Seattle Opera performances on Wednesday and Saturday at McCaw Hall that will add to downtown traffic. There are three different events at Century Link Field Events Center running through the weekend that will add to SODO area traffic.

Benaroya Hall:

There is a National Geographic Live lecture on Tuesday, Feb. 24 from 9:30 a.m. to approximately 12:30 p.m. There are about 2,500 students and attendees expected.  School buses will drop off and pick up students on streets near the venue. Seattle Police will assist and direct bus traffic. Expect congestion in the vicinity of Benaroya Hall.

Seattle Opera at McCaw Hall:

George Frederic Handel’s opera Semele will have performances on Wednesday, Feb. 25 and Saturday, Feb. 28 at 7:30 p.m. There are about 3,000 people expected to attend performances.

Seattle Center and surrounding area:

The Hot Chocolate 15k and 5k Runs on Sunday will impact streets around the Seattle Center and surrounding area. Aurora Avenue N/SR-99 will be closed between the N 47th Street to the Western Avenue off-ramp from 6 a.m. to 11 a.m.; all other streets along the route will close from 6:30 a.m. to approximately 11a.m. The 5k run begins at 6:45 a.m. and the 15k run begins at 7:55 a.m. http://www.hotchocolate15k.com/seattle/

  • The 5k route starts on 2ndAvenue N on the Seattle Center campus; travels south on 2nd to Broad Street; west on Broad to Elliott Avenue; south on Elliott to Western Ave; south on Western to approximately Pike St; makes a U-turn, and goes north on Western to the northbound SR-99 Bell Street on-ramp; north on SR-99 to Harrison Street; east on Harrison Street to Dexter Avenue N; north on Dexter to Mercer Street; west on Mercer to 5thAvenue N; south on 5th to Thomas Street; west on Thomas back onto Seattle Center grounds for the finish.
  • The 15K route starts on 2ndAvenue N on the Seattle Center campus; travels south on 2nd to Broad Street; west on Broad to Elliott Avenue; south on Elliott to Western Avenue; south on Western to Spring Street; U-turn, and north on Western to the SB SR-99 Battery Street off-ramp; north on SR-99 to N 47th Street; makes a U-turn and goes south on SR 99 to Harrison Street; east on Harrison to Dexter Avenue N; north on Dexter to Mercer Street; west on Mercer to 5th Avenue N; south on 5th to Thomas Street; then west on Thomas back onto Seattle Center grounds for the finish.
