Road and new bridge reopen as part of floodplain restoration project

Following a seven-month closure for flood reduction and habitat restoration work, 35th Avenue NE, in Lake City, is now open to through traffic — including Metro routes 64 and 65.

Over the next few weeks, there will be occasional lane closures on 35th Avenue NE as Seattle Public Utilities (SPU) puts finishing touches on its Thornton Creek Confluence Project, including:

  • Completion of a new two-acre floodplain and meandering channel for the creek.
  • A new bridge where 35th Avenue NE crosses Thornton Creek.
  • Improved fish and wildlife habitat.
