Events Traffic Advisory for Tuesday, Jan. 13 – Monday, Jan. 19

The Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) advises travelers that there are several events happening throughout the city through next Monday that will increase traffic and travel times.

TUESDAY, JAN. 13:

National Geographic Live!: National Geographic hosts a student matinee lecture at Benaroya Hall (200 University St.) that goes from 9:30 a.m. to approximately 12:30 p.m. There are about 2,500 attendees expected. School buses will drop off and pick up students on streets around Beneroya Hall. SPD will assist with bus traffic; expect congestion in the vicinity.

WEDNESDAY, JAN. 14:

Seattle Opera at McCaw Hall: Tosca showing begins at 7:30 p.m. start. There are 3,000 people expected to attend. http://seattleopera.org/tickets/production.aspx?productionID=168&addon

THURSDAY, JAN. 15:

Roosevelt High School Martin Luther King Jr. March: About 210 participants will leave Husky Stadium at

7 a.m. and march to Roosevelt High School. Marchers will travel west on Northeast Pacific Pl.; continuing west on Northeast Pacific St.; north on University Way Northeast; west on Cowen Pl. Northeast; north on 15th Avenue Northeast; west on Northeast 66th St. into Roosevelt High School. SPD will escort the march.

FRIDAY, JAN. 16:

Seahawks Playoff Rally: A rally at Westlake Park with associated set-up and take-down will go from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and will close Pine St. between 5thand 4th avenues. There are about 2,000 people expected to attend. The rally starts at 11:00 a.m. and goes until 1:00 p.m.

Orca K-8 MLK Celebration March: About 650 participants will march from Orca K-8 School (Bowen Place South and South Dawson St.) at 10 a.m. and travel north on Bowen Place South to South Hudson Street; west on Hudson to Rainier Avenue South; then north on Rainier to South Edmunds Street; west on Edmunds into Columbia Park; turn-around and take the same route back to Orca. SPD will escort the march.

Giddens School Student March for Peace and Justice: About 300 participants will leave Giddens School (20th Ave. South & South Lane St.) at 10:00 a.m. from Giddens School, north on 20th Ave. South to South Washington St; west through Pratt Park to 17th Ave. South; north on 17th to Langston Hughes Performing Arts Center on East Yesler Way; SPD will escort the march.   http://www.giddensschool.org

The Seahawks play the Packers for the NFC Championship at 12:05 p.m. There are about 68,000 people expected to attend. GO HAWKS!!

MONDAY, JAN. 19:

MLK Jr. Celebration Committee 33rdAnnual March & Rally: About 5,000 people are expected to attend the march that begins at 12:30 p.m. at Garfield High School (23rd Ave. & East Jefferson St.). The route starts northbound on 23rd Ave to East Union St.; west on Union to 12th Ave.; north on 12th to East Pine St.; west on
