The Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) advises travelers there are New Year’s Eve parties and events happening throughout the city Wednesday night through early Thursday morning that will increase traffic and travel times. Please travel safely to and from your destinations.
WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 31:
Resolution New Year’s Eve Party: An electronic music concert at WaMu Theater. 8,000 people are expected to attend. The event goes from 6 p.m. until 1:30 a.m. and will close Occidental Avenue South between South Royal Brougham Way and Railroad Way South during event hours. http://www.resolutionseattle.com/
Wildrose Bar 30th Anniversary Party: The event will close East Pike Street between 10th and 11th avenues from 7 a.m. on Wednesday to 5 a.m. Thursday. The event runs from 7 p.m. to 2 a.m. with about 950 people expected. http://www.thewildrosebar.com/special-events.html
New Year’s at the Needle: 16,000 people are expected to attend the annual fireworks show. Fireworks start at Midnight and last about 7 minutes. Seattle Police will close streets near the Space Needle for the event from 5th Avenue North between Mercer Street and Denny Way, and Broad Street between 5th Avenue North and Denny Way. Streets will close beginning at about 11:30 p.m., and will remain closed for about 45 minutes after the end of the fireworks show to allow the crowd to leave. http://www.spaceneedle.com/new-years/
THURSDAY, JANUARY 1:
Resolution Run 5K and Polar Bear Dive: A Magnuson Park event expecting about 1,800 people. The 5K run starts at 10:30 a.m. and will use streets, trails, and paths in Magnuson Park.
