Park Board to hold hearing on proposed change in park hours on Dec. 11

The Seattle Board of Park Commissioners will hold a public hearing at its Dec. 11 meeting regarding a proposed change in hours at Leschi and Frink parks and the Leschi-Lake Dell Natural Area. The open hours of these parks would change from 4:00 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.

The public hearing will be held at 6:30 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 11, 2014, in the Kenneth R. Bounds Park Board Room at 100 Dexter Ave. N, in Denny Park at the corner of Dexter and Denny Way.

Seattle Parks and Recreation recently completed an 18-month pilot project in these parks with the shorter hours; the Park Board will consider whether to make the change permanent.

The Seattle Board of Park Commissioners is a nine-member citizen board created by the City Charter. Four members are appointed by the Mayor and confirmed by the City Council; four members are appointed by the City Council; and one member is a young adult appointed by the YMCA Get Engaged Program (http://www.leadershiptomorrowseattle.org/YMCA.asp). The Board generally meets twice a month, normally on the second and fourth Thursday, to advise the Parks and Recreation Superintendent, the Mayor, and the City Council on parks and recreation matters.
