Public should expect some construction disturbance
The Ballard Pool parking lot and public locker rooms will be under construction to accommodate required facility improvements that will meet the American with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards. Forma Construction, hired by Seattle Parks and Recreation, will be working at the pool from Nov. 17, 2014 to Jan. 9, 2015. Ballard Pool is located at 1471 NW 67th St.
Only the parking lot will be affected during the first week of construction. Two current disabled parking spots and surrounding space will be improved. The current disabled parking spots will be relocated during construction to the front entrance load and unload area. A temporary fence will enclose the construction area and temporarily eliminate approximately three parking spots during the construction time.
On Nov. 24, Forma Construction will begin work on the family changing rooms and locker rooms. The two family changing rooms off the lobby area will be updated and improved to allow easier access for all. These changing rooms will be closed for the duration of the project.
Seattle Parks is working with the contractor to minimize the impact to the pool which will remain open during construction. The public locker rooms will be open and accessible during program times. Construction improvements for the locker rooms will occur after hours and not affect users of the pool.
Ballard Pool staff encourage advance planning which may include arriving early, carpooling, having a friend or family drop you off or even be prepared for walking a greater distance to the pool. Additional parking is available in the evening in the school lot. Madison Pool, at 13401 Meridian Ave N, provides plenty of parking close to its entrance and Parks pool staff will have All-City pool schedules available at the pool for swimmers’ convenience.
