Mercer Corridor Project: Continued work on Fifth Avenue North

Changes coming to Mercer Street in late November

The Seattle Department of Transportation advises travelers of the following activities within the Mercer Corridor Project area:

Expanded work hours on Fifth Avenue North between Republican and Harrison streets

The previously announced, lane impacts on Fifth Avenue North between Republican and Harrison streets will be modified beginning the morning of Monday, Nov. 3 as crews conduct sidewalk and utility work. During the closure, travelers can expect the following impacts:

  • The far right lane of northbound Fifth Avenue North between Harrison and Republican streets will be closed 24 hours a day.
  • A second northbound lane on Fifth Avenue North will be closed weekdays from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • One northbound lane on Fifth Avenue North will remain open at all times, and a second lane will be open after 3 p.m. each day.

Additional lane on eastbound Mercer Street coming in late November

Relief is coming as crews are hard at work to open a third eastbound lane on Mercer Street east of Fifth Avenue North by late November. This new Mercer Street configuration will also include two new left turn lanes from westbound Mercer Street onto southbound Fifth Avenue North and is a major milestone as the project works to complete the West Phase of the project. In order to meet this milestone, crews will be fully closing a portion of Mercer Street and Fifth Avenue North during one weekend in November. More details on this change, including detour routes and start dates, will be released in the coming weeks.

Thank you for your patience as construction continues. More information about alternate routes during Mercer Corridor construction may be found at: http://www.seattle.gov/transportation/mercercorridor.htm.
