Weekend traffic: think Huskies and Sounders!

It’s here—the colder weather we associate with fall sports will be just right for this weekend. If you are on the road, you will likely be sharing it with thousands of fans headed to football or soccer games. Husky fans will start the weekend with a Friday- night rally preceding their football game on Saturday evening at Husky Stadium. Expect the usual traffic control plan around the university and nearby areas to be in force before and after the game. Earlier on Saturday, Sounder fans will be on their way to CenturyLink Field to enjoy the final game of the season.

The West Seattle Harvest Festival will take place on Sunday, closing parts of California Avenue Southwest and also Southwest Alaska Street most of the day.

More than a thousand patients are expected at Key Arena Thursday through Sunday for a free medical, dental, and vision clinic starting at 5:30 a.m. each day. Also, there will be a free health fair in the Seattle Center Armory on Saturday and Sunday.

If you are planning a trip to the islands in hopes to see the orca whales visiting the sound, remember, the ferry access entry point has shifted to just south of Madison Street. Seawall construction continues on the central waterfront, so expect occasional closures on Alaskan Way South if you are going to one of the many waterfront destinations that remains open such as the Aquarium or the Great Wheel.

There will be lane closures for the Mercer Corridor  project this weekend and closures on I-5 just south of Seattle. Part of Beacon Avenue South remains closed, and work continues at Stone Way North and North 34th Street.

We hope the list of traffic events that could impact your commute helps you to plan ahead of time and. avoid traffic. We recommend you leave the driving to someone else and consider taking public transportation.
