Mayor Murray wraps up Ireland trip with visits to Irish President Higgins and Prime Minister Kenny

Mayor Murray finished up his trip to Ireland yesterday after spending time there advocating for marriage equality in advance of Ireland’s national vote on same-sex civil marriage, celebrating the Sister City relationship between Galway and Seattle, and speaking to the American Chamber of Commerce about well-established business connections between Seattle and Ireland.

On Monday, the Mayor met Taoiseach Enda Kenny — Ireland’s Prime Minister — at his offices adjoining Leinster House, the seat of Ireland’s Parliament.

On Tuesday, the Mayor and First Gentleman Michael Shiosaki met Irish President Michael Higgins at his official residence in Phoenix Park, Dublin. The residence was designed by James Hoban who also designed the White House. The Mayor was joined on the trip by Seattle Police Department’s Pipes and Drums Band, which raised private funds from the Seattle Police Foundation and others to join in the Sister City celebrations.
