Unreinforced Masonry Retrofit Policy Development Update

Our validation would confirm that all the buildings on the list are URMs. Our validation process would add any additional URM buildings that we identify. Our validation would also research whether URM buildings have been demolished or retrofitted, and would analyze whether the retrofits meet the proposed seismic upgrade. The result of our validation would be an updated map and list of URMs.

While we plan to validate the URM inventory, we will continue education about URMs in partnership with the Office of Emergency Management’s earthquake preparedness outreach, and continue to research financial incentives. At this point we do not have a definite date at which we will reconvene the URM Policy Committee.

We will continue to provide periodic updates on the website and email list: sign up on our URM Policy webpage. You can also send us comments via email DPD_URM_Policy_Committee_Comments@seattle.gov , or contact Sandy Howard, the Project Manager for the URM Retrofit Policy development.
