Parts of Third Ave in downtown to be closed Jul. 12-14

Roadway Structures crews from the Seattle Department of Transportation plan to close four blocks of Third Avenue in downtown Seattle on the weekend of July 12-13 to make pavement repairs:

  • Union Street to Seneca Street, and
  • Cherry Street to Yesler Way

The crews plan to close these street segments on Saturday, July 12 at 6 a.m. and reopen them no later than 6 a.m. on Monday, July 14, avoiding weekday traffic snarls.

Cross streets, sidewalks and the bus tunnel will remain open; businesses normally open on the weekend will remain open. For alternate routes, drivers may use Second Avenue to travel southbound, and Fourth Avenue for northbound travel.

For information about bus service, look for Rider Alert notices at bus stops as the date approaches; see Metro Online, or call (206) 553-3000.

The work is needed because the concrete around vents above the Third Avenue bus tunnel have been breaking, requiring the replacement of the adjacent concrete panels. While most of the work will take place on Saturday, the closures will continue until Monday morning to provide time for the concrete to cure.
