Getting around on July 3 and July 4

Drivers will want to consider the following special events when planning their trips on  July 3 and 4:

Storm Basketball
Thursday, July 3, 7 p.m.
Key Arena at Seattle Center
Estimated attendance: 5,000

Firecracker 5000
Thursday, July 3, 11:55 p.m.
Memorial Stadium
Estimated participants: 1,400

Admiral Fourth of July Kids Parade:
Friday, July 4, 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.
West Seattle
Estimated participants: 900
Parade route: Starts at 44th Avenue SW and Sunset Avenue SW; ends at Hamilton View Point Park.

Lake Union Wooden Boat Festival
Friday, July 4, 10 a.m. to 11 p.m.
Center for Wooden Boats and Lake Union Park
Expected attendance: 2,000
Expect congestion on streets surrounding the south end of Lake Union area.

Seafair Summer Fourth:
Friday, July 4, noon – 11 p.m.
Gas Works Park and Lake Union Park
Attendance expected: 65,000

Gates open at noon; fireworks start at 10:20 p.m.

Neighborhoods to the north of Gas Works Park (from North 40th Street to North Northlake Way) will close to all but local access traffic starting at noon. Valley Street will be closed from Westlake to Fairview all day–from 12:01 a.m. to midnight. Expect heavy congestion in the neighborhoods surrounding Lake Union.

I-5, from WSDOT website:

Drivers on their way to Seattle Friday, July 4, should be prepared for heavy congestion and evening lane and ramp closures on southbound I-5. The ramps will close between  9 and 10 p.m., and will reopen at the conclusion of the fireworks display:

  • The southbound I-5 off-ramp to Roanoke Street.
  • The southbound I-5 on-ramp from Boylston Street.
  • The southbound I-5 off-ramp and the exit-only lane to Mercer Street
