Summer kicks off with runners, rockers and Solstice frolickers

Music, runners, and merriment abound over the next few days. The huge annual Rock’n’Roll Marathon and Half Marathon, which features bands along the 26- and 13- mile run and walk courses, warms up tomorrow with the Marathon Expo taking place at CenturyLink Field. The Fremont Fair gets underway Friday attracting crowds of 20-25,000 on Saturday and Sunday to the Fremont business district. The ever-popular Fremont Solstice Parade officially marks the start of summer in Seattle on Saturday afternoon. Also on Saturday, in West Seattle there’s the Morgan Junction Community Festival for people and their pooches! Late Saturday, the annual Honk! Fest West in Georgetown is expected to draw out thousands of music lovers. For Seattle Storm fans, the team takes on the San Antonio Silver Stars on Thursday and the Washington Mystics on Sunday.

The Seattle Department of Transportation encourages motorists to consider joining the effort to reduce air pollution by not driving alone and trying one of the many alternate forms of transportation available – Metro Transit, the Sounder, Link light rail, West Seattle Water Taxi, the Seattle Streetcar, the monorail, carpool, bicycle, or even walk – if feasible.
