CANCELLATION NOTICE: Events tonight and tomorrow may impact your travels

The Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) advises motorists to keep a few events in mind which could impact their travel times today and tomorrow (May 28 and 29).

Please ignore the following traffic warning as Lady Gaga just cancelled her performance due to “horrible Bronchitis”:  Tonight, Lady Gaga’s artRAVE concert at the Key Arena from 7:30 –11 p.m. will produce heavier traffic around the Seattle Center before and after the entertainer’s ARTPOP Ball. Motorists may be especially impacted in the late afternoon commute from the I-5 Mercer off-ramps to the Seattle Center when the expected 13,000 Gaga fans start heading in for the concert.  Tonight, Lady Gaga’s artRAVE concert at the Key Arena from 7:30 –11 p.m. will produce heavier traffic around the Seattle Center before and after the entertainer’s ARTPOP Ball. Motorists may be especially impacted in the late afternoon commute from the I-5 Mercer off-ramps to the Seattle Center when the expected 13,000 Gaga fans start heading in for the concert.   Also in that same general time frame, traffic will likely be heavier than usual approaching the SODO District as some 14,000 baseball lovers converge on Safeco Field for the Seattle Mariners’ 7:10 p.m. game against the Los Angeles Angels.

Tomorrow, May 29, the annualBike to Work and Summer Streets Party takes place just off Market Street in the heart of Ballard from 4 – 8 p.m. A crowd of 800 is expected to attend the event. The following streets will be closed from 11 a.m. – 9 p.m.: 22nd Avenue NW between NW Market Street and Ballard Avenue NW, and Ballard Avenue NW between 22nd Avenue NW and NW Market Street. Motorists can expect considerable congestion in the Ballard Business District and on adjacent streets. For more details, please see http://www.seattle.gov/transportation/summer_ballard.htm.

Also tomorrow evening, the Seattle Mariners will once again take on the Los Angeles Angels at 7:10 p.m. With 14,000 Mariners devotees coming to Safeco Field, drivers in the SODO area should plan on the usual heavier traffic during the evening commute.

SDOT encourages motorists to help protect the environment, save money and reduce their stress by trying one of the many alternate forms of transportation available – Metro Transit, the Sounder, Link light rail, West Seattle Water Taxi, the Seattle Streetcar, the monorail, carpool, bicycle, or even walk – if feasible.
