(UPDATE) Body Found Inside Shopping Cart In Othello Neighborhood

Witnesses called 911 just before 11 a.m Thursday to report that someone was pushing a shopping cart containing a body.

South precinct officers responded to the 4000 block of S. Austin St. and located a shopping cart with what appeared to be a pile of clothes with feet sticking out. Officers immediately called for the Seattle Fire Department to respond. Fire officials determined the person was deceased and had sustained multiple stab wounds fatal injuries. Officials are still working to determine the cause of death.

Witnesses said they had seen a young black male with dreadlocks, wearing a black jacket and blue jeans, pushing the cart down an alleyway. Police are currently searching the area for the man, or anyone else who might have information about the incident.

Homicide detectives are conducting the investigation and asking anyone with information to please call 911.

We’ll update this post with additional information as it becomes available.

Witnesses at the scene told police they saw a man pushing the cart down the street and confronted him after they saw him rummaging through garbage cans.

The man left the cart and walked northbound before witnesses discovered the body inside the cart.

The King County Medical Examiner is en route to the scene and will determine the cause of death. However, Seattle police are currently investigating the incident as a homicide.
