SPD officers arrested a 16-year-old robber on Rainier Tuesday evening after he and two of his friends attacked a 64-year-old woman and stole her purse, walker and medication.
Just after 4 pm, the woman was walking near Rainier Ave S and S Andover St after picking up a prescription at the store. Three young men approached her from behind, grabbed her purse, walker and bag of prescriptions and shoved the woman, who was able to stay upright. The teens ran away, laughing as they fled.
Three rightfully appalled witnesses chased after the three suspects and caught up to one of them at Lake People Park—in the 3100 block of 31st Ave S—and held the 16-year-old until police arrived.
Officers were able to find some of the victim’s property near the scene and returned it to her. Police are still working to identify the two other teenage suspects.
Police booked the 16-year-old suspect into the Youth Service Center for the robbery.
